BunnyCDN is not for me
I tried BunnyCDN on behalf of some of my clients who wanted to achieve better performance on their international e-commerce projects. BunnyCDN looked good, at first…
I got fast speeds from almost any location, as reported by BunnyCDN. BunnyCDN reported loading times of milliseconds instead of seconds. This made me very happy. Additionally, my Web Core Vitals improved significantly. The price tag was also very reasonable. I received a bunch of free credits from BunnyCDN and my monthly traffic (only a few hundred visitors per month) costed me around 1 dollar.
But not everything was smooth sailing. Setting up BunnyCDN was a very confusing process. The differences between the multiple Pull Zones, DNS Settings and the tab Storage were completely unclear to me. The way these elements depended on each other was even more confusing. I did not want to move my nameservers to Bunny, but according to the Bunny Support Team, I had little choice. This was another disappointment. Then, the poor interface (and my own clumsiness, to be honest) made me to click the SSL button a litle too often, resulting in two days(!) of downtime. After some persuasion, I found an employee from Bunny who was willing to install a temporary certificate. However, after this certificate expired (three months later), the website went offline again.
None of my international clients would have taken this lightly — neither the downtime during the transition, nor the downtime due to the failed renewal. And frankly, I had enough as well. I decided to pull the plug. I changed my nameservers back to DNS Made Easy/DigiCert and ended this bumpy ride. Bye-bye Bunny.
This whole situation reminds me of the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. They raced each other and you probably know how that ended. If not: it turns out that keeping a website online is more important than making it the fastest. Nevertheless, I hope to beat Bunny on speed as well, with a little help from my friends at DNS Made Easy. But that is a story for another time.
I will keep you posted.
